Bizarre Magazine

Bizarre Magazine

In the last year of Bizarre magazine’s existence (it closed in January 2015) I was given my own section (called Visual Assault) whereby I could choose a theme and write and illustrate it in my style, however, there was no budget and the shoots would be unpaid.

Luckily I was able to secure limited sponsorship from an American company I was involved with at the time which meant combining the themed shoots with fashion which was also difficult as very few fashion brands would lend clothing to a magazine like Bizarre. To get around this I worked with young stylists who utilised their contacts with fashion students and up-and-coming designers. I then set up a team to work with including the photographer Chris Bell who I had worked with at Redemption Films, the Italian make-up artist Silva Saccinto, various stylists including Olga Starky, prop designer David Palser and numerous models.

In all, I put together a total of ten ‘Visual Assault’ features covering everything from Black Metal and riots to fascism and vampires which you can see here. Seven were shot with Chris Bell, one (Satan Calling) I shot and two (Flesh, Fangs and Fantasy, and Death Dolls) were reworking of previous images).
