Female Vampire and Skulls in the Catacombs is an image created by Nigel Wingrove in 2024 as part of an ongoing series imagining a hidden community of female vampires and their children living deep within the ancient catacombs beneath Paris.
Presented in stark black and white, the image depicts a pale female vampire emerging from the darkness, surrounded by a wall of human skulls. Her tattered clothing and weathered, almost spectral appearance suggest a figure who has inhabited this subterranean world for generations, suspended somewhere between beauty, decay and death.
The image forms part of the wider In Death We Are in Life series, an imagined visual history of this secret subterranean world.
Each print is produced on premium 230gsm matt art paper with a 3mm white border and is supplied unframed.
