Black-Haired Female Vampire in the Catacombs is an image created by Nigel Wingrove in 2024 as part of an ongoing series imagining a hidden community of female vampires and their children living deep within the ancient catacombs beneath Paris.
Presented in stark black and white, the image depicts a solitary black-haired female vampire seated upon an ancient coffin within a decaying subterranean burial chamber. Surrounded by skeletal remains, crumbling tombs, and shadowy figures emerging from the darkness, she appears strangely serene amid the decay of the catacombs.
The image forms part of the wider In Death We Are in Life series, an imagined visual history of this secret subterranean world.
Each print is produced on premium 230gsm matt art paper with a 3mm white border and is supplied unframed.
